For a warming massage, dilute to a maximum of 1% in carrier oil (e.g. Organic MCT Oil) – approximately 2 drops per 10 ml. For household cleaning, add a few drops to DIY natural cleaning products for a spicy scent.

Important: Cinnamon leaf oil is a potent, warming oil. Always use well diluted and never neat on the skin. Not suitable for children or during pregnancy.

Cinnamon Leaf produces a Heart/Base Note with a warm, complex character. The secret? Leaf oil is dominated by eugenol (the same component found in cloves), while bark oil is rich in cinnamaldehyde. This makes the leaf oil softer, rounder and less "sharp" than bark oil. In blends it's the "blazing hearth" – it brings immediate, enveloping warmth. The art lies in the dosage: too much and it overwhelms everything, in the right amount it creates an irresistible atmosphere. The key? Combine it with citrus for lightness (lemon) or with woody notes for depth (Swiss stone pine).

The Plant

Cinnamomum zeylanicum (synonym: C. verum) is an evergreen tree belonging to the Lauraceae family – the same family as bay laurel and camphor. Native to Sri Lanka (ancient Ceylon, hence the name), it reaches 10-15 metres in height with glossy, leathery and intensely aromatic leaves.

Cinnamon is one of the oldest and most precious spices in human history. Mentioned in the Bible, it was used by the Egyptians for embalming and by the Romans as a luxury perfume. In the Middle Ages it was so valuable it was considered a gift worthy of a king. The distinction between leaf and bark oil is fundamental: the leaves produce an oil rich in eugenol (warm, clove-like), while the bark produces an oil rich in cinnamaldehyde (sweet, spicy).

In the diffuser: 3 drops sweet orange, 2 drops cinnamon leaf, 1 drop clove. It is the smell of biscuits in the oven – sweet, warm, a little spicy. For a fresher touch add 1 drop of Swiss stone pine. One hour in the evening is enough: cinnamon lingers, the diffuser does not need to run all day.

What is the difference between cinnamon leaf and cinnamon bark oil?

Leaf oil is rich in eugenol (a phenol also found in cloves) and is softer and rounder. Bark oil is dominated by cinnamaldehyde and is sweeter and more "classically" spicy. Our oil is leaf oil.

Can I apply the oil directly to my skin?

Absolutely not – never neat! Cinnamon oil can strongly irritate the skin. Always dilute to a maximum of 1% in carrier oil (2 drops per 10 ml). Always perform a patch test before use.

Is it suitable for children?

No. Cinnamon leaf essential oil is not suitable for children or babies. For little ones, there are gentler oils such as lavender.
