This is the origin of its common name. The scientific name Orthosiphon derives from the Greek orthos (straight) and siphon (tube), referring to the straight corolla tube. The name stamineus comes from the Latin stamen, emphasising the prominent stamens. In Indonesia, the plant is traditionally known as "Java tea".
