Red Poppy Extract (Papaver rhoeas)
Hydroalcoholic extract from the petals of the red poppy. Made in a specialised laboratory in Italy with a 1:1 extraction ratio.

What is Red Poppy extract
An extract obtained from the petals of the red poppy (Papaver rhoeas L.), the familiar poppy of European fields. The extraction uses a hydroalcoholic method at a 1:1 ratio, preserving the full active compound profile of the delicate red petals.
In Italian folk tradition, the red poppy is known as "rosolaccio" and has been one of the most cherished evening plants for centuries. Made in a specialised laboratory in Italy. Alcohol content: 30% vol.
The plant: Red Poppy (Papaver rhoeas)
The red poppy, also known as the corn poppy, is an annual herbaceous plant from the Papaveraceae (poppy) family. It grows wild across Europe, particularly in grain fields and along roadsides β those vivid flashes of red that colour the countryside from spring through summer. It reaches a height of 30-80 cm with slender, hairy stems bearing flowers of vivid red with four petals as delicate as silk.
In Mediterranean folk tradition, the petals of the red poppy were gathered and prepared as an evening infusion or as a gentle syrup β a ritual that Italian grandmothers passed down from generation to generation. The petals contain specific alkaloids such as rhoeadine, which are entirely different from those of the opium poppy. The name "rhoeas" comes from Greek and refers to the ease with which the petals fall in the wind.
The petals are harvested in spring, freshly opened, when the active compound content is at its peak.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the red poppy the same plant as the opium poppy?
No, absolutely not. The red poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is an entirely different species from the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). The red poppy contains its own alkaloids such as rhoeadine, which have nothing to do with the alkaloids of the opium poppy.
What is Tintura Madre (T.M.)?
Tintura Madre is a traditional phytotherapeutic extraction method. The petals are macerated in a hydroalcoholic solution at a 1:1 ratio (one part plant to one part solvent), producing a concentrated extract that preserves the full spectrum of active compounds.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, red poppy extract is traditionally considered suitable for children from age 3, with age-appropriate dosing. In Italian folk tradition, rosolaccio syrup was prepared specifically for young children. Always consult your paediatrician.
Why is it mainly used in the evening?
In the European herbal tradition, the red poppy has always been associated with evening rituals. The petals were prepared as an infusion after dinner β a custom passed down through generations in Mediterranean families.
How long does a bottle last?
It depends on dosage. With regular use of 10 drops three times daily, the 30 ml format lasts about 2 weeks. The 100 ml format lasts several months.
How should I store the extract?
Away from light and heat sources. The amber glass bottle protects the contents. Refrigeration is not necessary.
