Damiana extract in bottle with dropper

      What is Damiana extract

An extract obtained from the leaves of Damiana (Turnera diffusa Willd. ex Schult.), a plant with a long tradition in Central American cultures. The extraction uses a hydroalcoholic method at a 1:1 ratio, preserving the full active compound profile of the leaves.

Made in a specialised laboratory in Italy. Alcohol content: 55% vol.

      The plant: Damiana (Turnera diffusa)

Damiana is a small, aromatic shrub from the Passifloraceae (passionflower) family, the same family as passionflower. It is native to Mexico, Central and South America and southern Texas. It grows in dry, sunny soils, reaching a height of 30-200 cm with small, toothed and intensely fragrant leaves.

In Maya and Aztec tradition, Damiana held a special place among known plants. The Maya called it the "herb of the joy of living" and used it as a warming tonic tea. The Spanish conquistadors brought it to Europe, where it became known in the herbal tradition. The name Turnera honours the English botanist William Turner; diffusa refers to the open, branching growth habit of the plant.

The leaves are harvested during flowering, when the active compound content is at its peak.

      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is the alcohol content 55%?

The leaves of Damiana contain resins, essential oils and aromatic compounds that require a stronger solvent to be fully extracted. The 55% vol. ensures that the entire active compound profile of the plant is preserved in the extract.

      What is Tintura Madre (T.M.)?

Tintura Madre is a traditional phytotherapeutic extraction method. The fresh or dried plant is macerated in a hydroalcoholic solution at a 1:1 ratio (one part plant to one part solvent), producing a concentrated extract that preserves the full spectrum of active compounds.

Which plant family does Damiana belong to?

Damiana belongs to the Passifloraceae (passionflower) family, the same family as passionflower. It was formerly classified in the separate Turneraceae family, which is now incorporated into the Passifloraceae.

When should I take the extract?

Morning and daytime intake is recommended. Evening use is not recommended.

How long does a bottle last?

It depends on dosage. With regular use of 10 drops twice daily, the 30 ml format lasts about 2-3 weeks. The 100 ml format lasts several months.

How should I store the extract?

Away from light and heat sources. Refrigeration is not necessary.
